i have just purchased a low milage bike out of japan, it was a non runner. motor will not turn over.(got it cheap) on removing the primary covers i find both oil pump gears broken into bits (nylon gears) i cant figure what would course this. its unclear if this issue has seized something in the motor or not. do these motors shut down if oil pressure drops

Nutz, it sounds like you will need to do more investigation as to the cause of the engine failure. If there was a massive oil leak it could have caused the engine to seize. Or, there could have been another condition that caused the oil pump failure. You'll need to take the engine apart to assess this, then rebuild and replace all the affected parts.
