    lacing issue

I just looked at the file for Bonneville spokes and there are I believe 4 different spokes that are laced in. This means that if you mix them up it's F**KED. Sorry to hear about this. It pisses me off when you hear about incompetent idiots that charge good money to F**K things up. If you...

    lacing issue

I have a file at home with the lacing pattern. It looks like he has the wrong spokes in the wrong place. The spokes aren't all the same. When you take it apart you have to note which spokes go where. I'll see if I can find the file with the spoke pattern, or do a search here or on the...

    New Mods

I'm curious why they stopped the pull at 6k rpm. When I had mine done I had right about the same torque # as you but they went right to redline and ended up with 67RWHP. It doesn't really matter because the bottom line is you have increased your torque which increases HP through the rpm range...

    Grips vs Vibration

Well there you go. One question, several different suggestions. Not a bad thing. It just shows that these damn handlebars are such a personal preference thing. What is wonderful for one, sucks for another. My method is install every bar & grip combo I can afford, then eventually go back to...

    cheap battery alternatives

I notice that all the folks with batteries that last a long time are in 4 season or colder climates. Here in the Desert SW it's the heat that kills batteries. I usually get 3 yrs. on any battery, any vehicle, so the cheaper ones here work fine but wouldn't want them in colder climates.

    Sluggish @ 2000-3000 rpm: Rejet?

Well that's one fancy vacum gauge. Leave it to the French to make an electronic vacum gauge.

    cheap battery alternatives

Yep, I used the Wallmart brand in the Bonnie for 2-1/2 yrs, no problem. I also have one in "mommas" quad and they have both worked fine. There @ $50.00, just make sure you get the right one because if the overall dimensions are taller, wider etc... you'll have fit issues in the battery box.

    Sluggish @ 2000-3000 rpm: Rejet?

You wouldn't want to listen to the music we produce unless you love the pistonic valve train symphony. I meant to say that the vacum gauges bounce too much and I feel that the mercury is so dense that it is hard to see small variances. I've gotten used to the tranny (not that kind of tranny)...

    Sluggish @ 2000-3000 rpm: Rejet?

You can make your own sync gaude with some clear 5/16" tubing, a verticle board & some twisty ties. Use transmision fluid, it's easy to see and it is sensitive to atmospheric changes. I think the mercury is too heavy and vacumm bounces around too much. Read up on home made sync gages...

    110 yr anniversary bonnie

I'm a little disapointed. I would have thought a 110 yr celebration would knock our socks of. Instead I see a 2012 Bonnie with a cool matt paint and an emblem on the cover. Nothing leading back to all the heritage. It may not have been a viable rider, but it couldn have been a montage of...

free service manual for Modern Classics

I was able to get the "Free Download" a couple of years ago and I couldn't live without my manual for the more complex repairs. The Haynes is fine for everyday maintenance. I'm not sure if I got it from the link above, but I do want to say "THANK YOU" to those that have gone the extra mile to...

    Sluggish @ 2000-3000 rpm: Rejet?

You have received some good advise. Just a couple of add-ons. I didn't see what year your bike is? The early bonnevilles had straight needles, the newer ones went to the Thrux style tapered needles. If you have the old straight ones try upgrading to the Thrux or newer bonnie needles. Before...

    Bonny CDI failure?????

It happened to me. Although it may have been self induced. After installing 2- 55W driving light I started having problems. I think the excess load dropped the voltage to the CDI and it fried itself. May have been unrelated and it was just its time. That's both the rectifier & the CDI...

    Oil Leak Near Starter

Also check the 2 oil galley plugs above the starter in engine case. My 07 was leaking there so the dealer installed new ones with fresh sealer on the plugs. They can run down and puddle around the starter.

Classic Bikes and Classic Photos: 1953 Bike Tour of Europe

My Dad worked for Avro Aero from 1925 thru the war as a mechanic & strip manager in the Derbyshire area. I wonder if they ever met? Love the story & the pics. I wish I had a historical collection of this quality of my Dad.
