*** Note - I learned this through Sweat and then created a document when I got it down correctly!

The first thing most of us do is open a free account up at Photobucket or some other sight like that. Then you upload all your pictures to it. Then you will see links under each picture that you can select. Depending on what you want to do will depend on which link you will use. For many of us you will notice in our signature below each thread we participate in that there is a Thumbnail of our bike, a silly quote from our life, and then sometimes a clickable link; that if you click on it, it will bring you to Photobucket and show the full size image of that thumbnail.

Here is one of the cool things you might see. You’re looking at a post and you see the person’s thumbnail and think, “This is a cool looking bike, and I would like to see a bigger version of it”! To create this you need either a clickable Thumbnail or a clickable link. I chose the clickable link. So what I did was I uploaded the same picture to Photobucket twice and I reduced one of them to a Thumbnail size and re-named it Thumbnail Bonnie or something like that and I left the other one full size and renamed it “FundCycle” – which at onetime you would have seen that and if you touched it with your mouse it would be a clickable link to a full size picture.

One of the first things you want to make sure of is that your link to Photobucket or whatever you will use is actually working so you need to go and test that. I had a couple of issues in the beginning where the links would only bring you to the Photobucket homepage or to a “Page not Found”. I worked with the moderator of Photobucket to get that straightened out. Once that is set your golden!

You will see some examples of how I did it below. You will have to play around a bit to get it right – it was a little bit of a pain in the ass but with enough persistence you will get what you’re looking for as well.
Good luck and don’t give up!

My clickable link version that works –

) Oooops I think I removed the picture

my link to the photo = image on a page of your post (Note – please resize your pix in Photobucket to something like 800x600 so we don’t have to scroll all over the place to look at your pictures.)

[URL= my link to the photo = link to a page on your post

Each picture you upload to Photobucket has a Resize Option – that is where you can create smaller pictures and thumbnails. Again you will have to fool around with it a bit and then test it out maybe in some obscure part of the Rat where nobody goes – you know how much some of these guys look for an opportunity to ass-rape ya! But always remember it’s all good hearted and if someone does step over the line they are usually called out and they man up and all is forgiven quite quickly around here.

Feel free to email me if you get stuck somewhere. I had real detailed directions somewhere but I cannot find them right now. I will hunt them down or re-create a detailed doc so I can simply forward clear-cut directions to anyone who is having problems.

Couple things ... ok, more than a couple ..

Technical stuff that pertains to the bikes in the tech section - This here is computer tech/forum stuff so I moved this to the FAQs.

Photobucket doesnt limit image size to 800x600 anymore. They'll allow 7 different sizes, up to 1 meg.

No images are allowed in sig lines on this forum: find jkleiber and kick him in the twig and berries. I'm sure he's in his cave polishing something.

Sig lines: I would also appreciate it if folks here would not make a novella out of their sig lines. Kinda stoopid when your sig line is bigger than your replies.

Bonafide, does posting lots of pics via photobucket use up lots of space on the forum server or are we free to post as many as we like?

Have at it, but you can only post 4 pics per reply. I didnt set that, I think it might be a vbulletin thing.

Note - anyone posting pictures should keep in mind that people with smaller screens have to scroll all over the fucking place to view a big picture. If you can kindly re-size your pictures to 800x600 they will fit nicely on a web page and for those poor bastards that still have 56k dial-up they can actually load the page before the 2009 Bonneville's are released! :D

One thing to consider...

In tech threads, it is better to attach the pic to the forum, not a link.
people remove/change pics all the time from photobucket/whatever.
It kinds sucks when the tech thread that you need no longer has pics in it.

I agree with Admin Chimp! But that is a further reason why you would definitely want to re-size your pics so that they don't take up valuable server space.

Excellent Bud - that will really help with some of the Tech stuff I'm rolling out next week.
