Hey ArgieDawg-We were discussing cams for Scrambler in the Scrambler tech forum under "Best Scrambler Mods" I noticed you offer a vast array of profiles. What would you suggest for a basically stock bike with airbox and ai removed, TOR's with the possibility of more performance upgrades in the future? What kind of hp jump could I expect with your cams? How long are the cams on sale? Thanks.

I just read that Scrambler thread, it's a good one!
For your application a Street Plus set of cams will do the job.
Since you free'd the intake and exhaust the cams will be good for a 3-4 RWHP increase at sea level with your current mods; ( it will be good if you dyno your bike to have a baseline before you swap cams)
The same cams works great with head work, carbs and BB 904 BB kit, no need to upgrade.
The cams will be on sale for a while, no worries.
I hope this help.
Thank you.

I gotta tell you, Argie, I appreciate you quoting real world hp figures. This is my forth Triumph and third Hinkley. Many of the upgrade I've gotten came with promises of 10, 15 + horsepower increases. None of them have lived up to their claims. Extra horses don't come easy. Thanks!

I will answer here your questions for the TPUSA performance parts.

Howdy Carlos,

I have to ask you these questions again about the TPUSA big bore kits.

I am considering purchasing the 994cc Billet Big Bore Kit from TPUSA.

Now, I have asked you about this in a previous PM, but I was not satisfied with the answer you gave me.

Firstly, I would like to know the specifcation of the aluminiun alloy used in these billet big blocks.

Secondly, I would like to know the specifcation of the aluminiun alloy and manufacturer of the forged pistons used in this big bore kit. From what I remember, you previously said that the piston manufacturer was Arias?

Thirdly, I would like to know the piston to cylinder wall clearance for this kit.

I have some assumptions about this kit, the forgings of the pistons should be high silicon content 4032 forgings, which have a lower expansion rate than 2618 forgings, therefore less cylinder to piston clearance required, especially when nicasil coated aluminium alloy barrels are used, which would have a higher expansion rate than iron liners used in Wiseco kits for the NTB.
Therefore a cylinder wall to piston clearance of 0.002" would not be unrealistic for a high performance street engine.

Ultimately I am looking for a kit that has longlife potential, ie 100,000 miles and no piston slap on startup.

Hope you can answer my questions.

Cheers..................Agro

There is no piston slap, but I can't assure you that the kit will last for 100000 miles.
About your other questions, your assumptions are spot on for a street bike.
In few weeks I will be able to give you more details about the dynamics involved in the billet cylinders kits.

Thanks for the reply Carlos.

So you are confirming that the piston forgings in this kit are 4032 ??

Still would like to know the cylinder wall to piston clearance used with this kit.

Had a look on advanced sleeves website; they do liners in 4032 aluminum alloy forgings

http://www.advancedsleeve.com/order.html

Ideally the billet cylinder block should be made out of 4032 forging, the same as the pistons, therefore should have the same expansion rates.

Howdy Carlos,

hope you can help me out with information regarding the sprockets TPUSA uses in their 520 kit.

I have a friend working in the motorcycle retail industry and would like to buy these sprockets in Australia.

The rear sprocket(on the website) looks like a Supersprox #RST1793 which is available in 40 to 48 teeth.

Carlos, what sizes are available in the front sprocket and rear sprocket of the TPUSA 520 kit?

Could you please supply the manufacturers p/n of the front sprocket.

Loook forward to your reply...........Agro ;)

Carlos, could you also please supply the manufacturers name and p/n of the rear sprocket as well. Had a look at Supersprox site, it looks simmiliar to the one on TPUSA site.

Had a look at your photo album, is that your 1087 getting put together?
Hope eveerything goes ok with the new donk.

If you are referring to the RAT album, that is my first 904 BB kit, there is one picture only of the "old" 1087.
For the new one I did not post any pics yet.
I have a bunch, but I will wait until I finish break in and the first dyno runs.

Hi C, refering to pics in your photobucket album, the black cased motor being built.
Who's that handsome dude building the engine?
Is that the Allloy Nikasil Big Bore Barrels being fitted?

:) Hey ArgieDawg, I'm wanting to mod my Thruxton when I get it at the end of the year and I'm getting the 39mm Keihins matched with a D&D 2 into 1 and the NARK setup. Will they come jetted to match all of these other mods? I am at sea level and at this stage will not go past 1500ft for a while. Mostly warm over here. 9 degrees C to 30 degrees mean temperatures.

Cheers....

Yes Sir;
All 39's kits are re-jetted to customers altitude and mods before shipping.

Carlos, can the 41mm FCR's be substituted in the 39mm FCR kit, are 41's available with the TPS sensor like the 39's have?

Just thinking that 1000,1100,1200 Bonnevilles could use the bigger version.

Howdy Carlos,
is this a TPUSA 520 chain/sprocket kit on this gorgeous Thruxton?
Got any pics of the L/hand side?

Yes we can do that Michael.
No TPS sensor like the new Sudco 39's has, it's our own kit for the 41's.

Carlos that rear sprocket is a Supersprox stealth,
already know this p/n, still would like the front sprocket p/n, you said in a previous post, these front ones are available in 17 to 19 teeth.

We use 3 different brands Michael;
The one in the Thruxton is a Superprox like you said.
On my bike I have a 520 Sprocket Specialist brand.
And we also use another brand as well.
BTW you have mail.
